Slate is the basic material of my homeland. It can contain all sorts of minerals, that means a lot of colours are possible. Slate arises of different materials with different densities. So a lot of shapes and layers can emerge.
At first details of drystone walls caught my attention. During the serious low waterlevel periods in recent years I discovered on the revealed parts of the riversoil slatearrangements which represented, at least to me, the forces which shaped the solid stone. It felt like the stones started to whisper to me. I listened.
Slate and other stones keep to attract me since a long time. Maybe because they are the raw material of our planet. Maybe that’s why they can offer us infinte beauty. If we take the time to stand still and stare… It is an ongoing project.
I found I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way - things I had no words for.
